How to Turn Off Find My Before Service

A simple guide to turning off Find My before service, helping you avoid one of the most common causes of repair delays.

Before some Apple repairs can go ahead, Find My needs to be turned off on the device.

This is a very common step, but it also causes a lot of delays because customers often arrive without realising it may be required.

If you know your device may need service, it is worth checking this in advance as part of your wider repair preparation.

Why Find My matters before repair

Find My is an important security feature, but for some types of service it can prevent the next step from moving forward until it has been disabled correctly.

For repair, replacement, or certain battery service routes, Apple may need Find My switched off so the device can be processed safely and correctly.

That is why we often recommend sorting this before the appointment where possible.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • the device with you
  • your Apple ID email address
  • your Apple ID password
  • access to any two-factor authentication method if required

If you cannot access your Apple ID, you may not be able to turn Find My off at the time you need it.

On iPhone or iPad

The usual route is:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap your name at the top
  3. Tap Find My
  4. Tap Find My iPhone or Find My iPad
  5. Switch it off
  6. Enter your Apple ID password if prompted

If your iPhone or iPad is broken or unavailable

If the screen is broken, the device will not power on, or you do not have the device with you, you may not be able to turn Find My off from the device itself.

In that situation, the next step is usually to sign in to your Apple account from another device or web browser and remove the affected device from Find My where appropriate.

If you are not sure whether this applies to your repair, bring your Apple ID details with you and ask us before making changes. We can explain the safest next step for your appointment.

Find My Mac before service

Mac repairs can also be affected by Find My. If Find My Mac needs to be turned off, the usual route is through System Settings, your Apple Account, and iCloud.

On some versions of macOS the wording may vary slightly, but the aim is the same: confirm that Find My Mac is switched off before service if your repair route requires it.

Apple Support guidance

Apple also publishes its own guidance for removing a device from Find My and preparing devices for service. If you want the official reference, start with Apple Support and search for Find My and repair preparation.

We have kept this guide focused on the repair appointment side so you know what matters before bringing your device to TekStore.

If you cannot do it in advance

Do not panic.

If Find My needs to be turned off for your repair and you are not sure how to do it, our team can explain the process when you arrive. The main thing is to make sure you know your Apple ID details before your repair appointment.

Quick Find My repair questions

Do I always need to turn off Find My before repair?
No. It depends on the device and repair route, but it is common enough that it is worth checking before your appointment.

Can TekStore turn it off for me?
You need your Apple ID details and account access. We can guide you through the steps, but we cannot bypass your Apple account security.

What if the repair is for a battery?
Some battery service routes may still require Find My to be turned off before the device can be processed.

Final thoughts

Turning off Find My is often simple, but it is one of the most common causes of avoidable repair delays.

If you are preparing for service, it is worth checking it beforehand along with your backup and Apple ID details.
